Peru has been battered with heavy rain, flash floods, and landslides since January. The past weeks showed how these calamities have worsened, as almost 80 people have died and 100,000 families lost their homes due to the devastation these calamities bring. The storms have also destroyed crops, schools, and livelihoods. Washed out bridges and roads are delaying aid efforts.
According to weather experts in Peru, these floods and storms are the worst to hit Peru in over two decades, with rains ten times stronger than usual. And there’s still no end in sight, with more rain expected in the coming weeks.
With lives of locals being threatened by these calamities, locals make it a point to save every person possible. In a video that went viral on YouTube, a girl can be seen emerging from the rubble brought about the deadly flash floods. Locals were shocked and ecstatic to see that she was alive.
Though she was a little disoriented at first, the girl was able to stand up and step on debris to walk towards safety. Other people who witnessed the ‘miracle’ immediately aided her and helped her. Locals are thankful that they were able to save at least one person amidst the chaos.
We are all praying for the safety of the people of Peru.
